The Santa Barbara News-Press has joined The Santa Barbara Independent in Endorsing My Campaign for City Council
November 2, 2006
Although they do not always agree, the South Coast's two largest newspapers have endorsed my campaign and I am the only candidate to receive an endorsement from each. This is what The Santa Barbara Independent said about my candidacy:
"Longtime Goleta resident Roger Aceves brings a wide range of experiences and skills that will be great additions to the council not least of which will be his years as a police detective and hostage negotiator in Santa Barbara. Such training might help the council navigate more smoothly the passions that so often erupt in the political life of Goleta. He also has led numerous organizations, including Earl Warren Showgrounds, through rocky, argumentative times, finding the common ground that allowed all parties to move forward together".

Campaign Update: It's very important, but this election isn't just about growth...
October 25, 2006
Although it is very important to me, this election isn't just about
growth. I am committed to preserving agricultural land but I am
also committed to making Goleta the safest city in the county
through community-based policing techniques.
I will fight to preserve open space but I am also looking forward to working with
school districts and our Parks Department to enhance recreational
opportunities for our youth.
I believe we should follow our general plan closely but also want to enhance citizen participation in city
government. Finally, even if we want to keep our growth slow, I also
believe we have to find creative ways to build affordable housing
through revitalization efforts in places like Old Town.
If you vote for me, you should know that if you and I don't agree, I will still meet with you and do
my best to find common ground. That's why diverse groups like Pueblo and the Goleta Valley
Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Santa Barbara Womens Political Committee and the Board of
Realtors PAC, have chosen to endorse me. They don't always agree, and they won't always
agree with me, but they know they can work with me to improve our city's infrastructure,
promote affordable housing and enhance our parks and recreation programs.
