Twenty-four year Goleta resident and police officer Roger Aceves filed the required signatures and 200-word candidate statement with the City Clerk of the City of Goleta to become a council candidate this morning.
"Each of the other candidates will tell you that this election is all about being on one side or the other on growth", said Aceves."Make no mistake, I believe in limits to growth and protecting open space, agricultural land and the character of our neighborhoods -- but there are so many other important issues for voters to consider".
With 29 years of experience in law enforcement as a Deputy Sheriff and Police Detective, Aceves says he is committed to bringing a community-based style of law enforcement to his home city. He promotes the revitalization of appropriate areas of the city such as Old Town and sees that process as an excellent opportunity to provide the community with critical workforce and affordable housing with low-impact, mixed-use projects. Aceves will also seek to work more closely with other local government agencies to tackle regional problems such as traffic, alternative transportation and parks and recreation opportunities for Goleta residents. As a four term former President and gubernatorial appointee to the 19th Agricultural District, Aceves also sees the city's fiscal health as a top priority of council.
"What I offer the voters of Goleta is experienced, proven leadership;" said Aceves, "and a commitment to important issues like law enforcement, parks and recreation and working with other local government agencies to solve regional problems".
