Although they do not always agree, the South Coast's two largest newspapers have endorsed my campaign and I am the only candidate to receive an endorsement from each.

Campaign Update: October 25, 2006
Although it is very important to me, this election isnšt just about
growth. I am committed to preserving agricultural land but I am
also committed to making Goleta the safest city in the county
through community-based policing techniques.

Campaign Update: October 6, 2006
Yesterday I attended two candidate forums at the Board of Realtors breakfast meeting and at Maravilla. The incumbents keep on insisting that this election is only about growth but when I walk door-to-door and speak with people -- I'm hearing a very different assessment of what the issues are in this campaign. Like most of the people I speak with, I'm interested in protecting The Good Land and not allowing too much growth. The General Plan which was just adopted the other night will handle that issue very well. I may not agree with how it was created or the 55% inclusionary rule -- but the General Plan will give us the control we need over development.

Campaign Update: September 26, 2006
Just today, I was pleased to receive the support of former council candidate Roy Zbinden. My campaign for council is going very well and as I continue to walk door-to-door I have been greeted warmly by the residents of Goleta who seem ready for a change of leadership on City Council. You are likely seeing my lawn signs showing up in various places...if you would like one, please let me know. Several supporters are organizing wine and cheese parties for their neighbors during the month of October and this is a way that I can both meet voters and perhaps raise a few dollars to pay for an upcoming absentee mailing and getting out the vote in November.

Police Officer and Goleta City Council candidate Roger Aceves announced today that he has received the support of the Santa Barbara Womens Political Committee and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund this past week. Unlike most local election endorsements, both organizations chose not to endorse all three incumbents running for reelection.

Campaign Update for September 15, 2006
Since my last campaign update, I have been busy walking precincts and contacting voters in our city. I've been actively seeking endorsements and am proud to announce that the Santa Barbara Womens Political Committee has chosen to endorse my campaign. First District Supervisor Salud Carbajal and Santa Barbara Council Member Brian Barnwell have also endorsed my candidacy because they are confident that I will work well with them in tackling some of the regional issues that they are concerned about.

Campaign Update for August 29, 2006
My campaign for city council was busy last week in that I began receiving questionnaires from several organizations about where I stand about the issues and what I would do for the City of Goleta. My responses to these organizations are reflected on the issues page on this web site.

As I've been speaking with Goleta residents, I've noticed a few common issues which I would like to highlight over the next two months. One issue that I've been speaking with a great deal of people about is the Revenue Neutrality Agreement that was made with the County of Santa Barbara when Goleta became a city. Two of the incumbents who are running for reelection signed this document which amazingly enough gives half of any property tax revenue to the county in perpetuity.

What is your stance on the inclusionary housing rule?

What is your stance on the inclusionary housing rule?
I believe that our council needs to do a better job at addressing housing needs and find ways to place low impact, mixed-use projects in appropriate locations. 'Testing' the resolve of the State of California's housing mandate invites a law suit that we can ill afford as a city. In creating a 55% inclusionary housing rule for new developments rather than the normal 25-30% that most cities require, I assert that this rule is really just a way to keep any affordable to moderately priced units from being developed at all.
