Earning Your Support
I have been an active council member for the last four years, but humbly submit that I have much to still give to the residents of Goleta. I am interested in continuing my efforts to revitalize Old Town, finalize our work on a General Plan guided by sound planning principles, and support the further creation of affordable housing, jobs, and a strong local economy.
A Record that Speaks for Itself
Four years ago, I campaigned on having extensive experience in running
organizations, managing budgets, and getting a wide diversity of people to work together toward a common goal. Now, I have a record as a council member that speaks for itself. I would hope it is clear that I have been a thoughtful, responsible member of council that keeps your best interests at heart.
Fiscal Responsibility
I have kept a keen eye on the city’s budget and will continue advocating a balanced budget which controls and watches
spending. I’ve also been careful not to cut law enforcement and public safety funds as I find it critical to our future.
Affordable Housing
Affordable housing is also an important part of revitalizing our local economy so that people that work here can live here. As chair of the Redevelopment Agency, I supported Sumida Gardens which brought 200 apartments for people who want to live and work in Goleta.
General Plan Update
When I was elected, we had an approved General Plan but a new council majority approved the initiation of well over 100 amendments that changed the document substantially. I didn’t agree with many of the amendments, but know we now have a general plan that needs to breathe before we consider making further changes other than zoning.
Local Economy, Sound Land Use Planning and Protecting Neighborhood Character
The three most important issues to me are the local economy, land use planning and the revitalization of Old Town.
First, we need to learn to do more with less in these challenging times. Next, stay engaged in the planning process. For example, it will be important to complete the revitalization of San Jose Creek and remove a large part of our city from the flood plane.
Finally, I am committed to maintaining and improving the special quality of life we have come to expect in Goleta by
protecting our neighborhood character.
