Deputy Sherrifs' Association Gives Early Endorsement to Aceves Campaign

Goleta City Council Member Roger Aceves announced today that he has received the early endorsement of the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of Santa Barbara County. Aceves, who has already announced his intention to run for re-election, does not formally file until early July.

"I’m proud to have earned the respect and support of law enforcement as I begin to campaign for re-election," said Aceves. "It is an especially important endorsement as it is not normally given before the filing deadline". "Since your election in 2006, your guidance has greatly contributed to the level of community services available to the residents of Goleta.", said SBCDSA President Christopher M. Corbett in a letter to Aceves, "You have had a clear vision for the economic future of the city, and you have been an unwavering advocate of public safety, which enhances the overall quality of life enjoyed by all".

Formed in 1971, the Santa Barbara County Deputy Sheriff's Association (SBCDSA) represents over 500 law enforcement professionals, consisting of Deputies, Dispatchers, and District Attorney Investigators.

Aceves’ credentials with law enforcement are based in almost 30 years in the field before he became a council member. He began his career in the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department and finished his law enforcement career at the Police Department for the City of Santa Barbara. Aceves is a graduate of the prestigious Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He received his second H. Thomas Guerry Award in 1994 for successfully negotiating the 21-hour Joseph Segura hostage siege.

The Deputy Sheriffs’ Association joins the Santa Barbara Airport Peace Officer's Association; Sheet Metal Workers International, Local 273; Ironworkers AFL-CIO, Local 433 and 416; and, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Locals 413 in making an early endorsement. Roger Aceves was elected to Goleta City Council in 2006 and served a term as Mayor. For more information about his campaign, please visit http://www.rogeraceves.com.
